VERMONT 100 MILE ENDURANCE RACE 2005

On 16-17th July, Chris Armour of Rochdale Harriers completed the Vermont 100 mile endurance race in the USA. This distance is roughly equivalent to 4 marathons run back-to-back.  The race started at 4 a.m. on Saturday 16th when the local temperature was already in the high 60’s.  During the day conditions became more challenging with temperatures in the high 80’s and very high humidity.  While 41% of the starters were unable to complete the 100-mile course, many due to heat exhaustion, Chris battled on to finish in a reported time of 26 hours 4 minutes and 5 seconds.

Chris’s previous achievements include the Bob Graham Round - a gruelling sub-24 hour Lake District challenge covering 72 miles, 42 peaks and approximately 27,000 feet of climbs.
