News and Progress Report - Update 2nd October 2005

On Sunday 2nd October 2005 Dame Mary Peters, the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale and others involved in the new track, including members of Rochdale Harriers, visited the new track at Springhill School to review progress. This visit was originally planned to be for the formal hand-over of the completed track, but further delays meant that this was not possible. 

 At the time of the visit the track surface was laid but had still to be lined and although the lighting was in place, there was no electricity supply.  The lining of the track is scheduled for the last two weeks of October, weather permitting, after which time the track should be available for use for training purposes.  The total completion and formal hand-over may not now be until March 2006.  

It was however possible on the day for a couple of Rochdale athletes to try the track out.........and it felt good !!!
