CARLY SETS 07/08 CROSS COUNTRY SEASON
OFF
TO A FLYING START
|
THE CROSS COUNTRY season got off to a flying start on 6th October, with the first fixture in the Red Rose league taking place at Blackburn. From the junior section of Rochdale Harriers, Gina
Thornton, Georgio Costa, Jack Walsh and Naomi
Richardson finished 5th, 6th, 9th
and 12th in their respective races. The Rochdale’s Senior Ladies team finished in second place behind Salford, thanks to superb performance from the counters Carly Needham, Josefa Terim and Jan Needham. Rossendale and Radcliffe finished eighth and ninth. The most notable individual run was from Carly Needham. She won the Senior Ladies race in style, finishing over 2 minutes ahead of 2nd place Tessa Walker from Salford Harriers. |

The Senior Men’s team finished 8th, just ahead of Rossendale and Radcliffe. The squad included newcomer Andrew Mc Dougal who put in an excellent performance to qualify as 3rd Rochdale counter. This came as no surprise following his recent 83 minute time in the Great North Run. Other newcomers to the Men’s Rochdale cross country squad included Chris Mullen, Matthew Cox and Tim Richardson. Club chairman Phil Roberts was
not as speedy as usual. Earlier
the same day he competed in the Autumn Leaves fell race, to finish top
in his age category overall in the 9-fixture Local Clubs Fell Race
Grand Prix. The next cross country race is in the SELCC league at Lilford Park, Leigh on 27th October. |
