29th August 2006

Littleborough Lions 5k Race 2006

ROCHDALE HARRIERS put in fine performances at this week’s Littleborough Lions 5K race, taking three of the top four places.  This event took place to raise money for local charitable causes.

Rochdale’s Wajib Ali returned to his winning ways, coasting home in 16 minutes and 15 seconds.  Junior male Matthew Proctor, running his third race in a few days, came second overall (17.33) while Kris Robinson finished in fourth place (17.52).

Other notable performances on this hilly 3.1 miler came from Chris Law, Chris Leach and Ray Dalby.  Law’s meteoric rise in form saw him finish 8th in 18.25 and Leach took 10th place with 18.38.  Training for the M50 category of the 2006 World Masters Athletics Championship Mountain Running in Switzerland certainly helped Ray Dalby’s performance, finishing 13th overall in 19.26.

Ian Stainthorpe’s return from a torn calf injury saw him in a mid-pack tussle with John Mayall and Anna Blomfield throughout the course, ultimately resulting in victory for Stainthorpe with only 5 seconds separating the three.

The first three ladies home for Rochdale Harriers were Human Rahman (20.27), Anna Blomfield (21.27) and Kirstin Johnson (23.19).

The finishing times for Rochdale Harriers were as follows:

Wajib Ali, 16:15; Matthew Proctor, 17.33; Kristian Robinson, 17:52; Chris Law, 18:25; Ray Dalby, 18:40; Nigel Shaw, 19:48; Mark Widdup, 20:04; Mark Walker, 20:15; Huma Rahman, 20.27; Ian Stainthorpe, 21:22; John Mayall, 21:25; Anna Blomfield, 21:27;  David Schofield, 21:59; Kirstin Johnson, 23:29; Eamon Mooney, 23:39; Jill Hutchinson, 24:44
