DAVID PROCTOR provided Rochdale Harriers with their first Senior victory in the Red Rose cross country league for many years. In a hotly contested race at Witton Park, Blackburn, David was pushed for three of the four laps by Blackburnís Karl Billington and Salfordís James Kovaks. On the final lap Proctor opened up a gap and completed the hilly, muddy 6.3 mile course in 37 min 07 second. This was 16 seconds ahead of second place Billington.
In the same race Matt Proctor achieved an impressive 4th position in 37 min 49 seconds.
Ian Roberts, Andrew McDougall, John Cook and Jon Lane combined with the Proctors to provide the Senior Menís team with a third place finish from the 12 clubs fielding complete Senior men teams.
The ladies team met tougher competition than the previous week in the South East Lancs league. The ladies team finished 7th at Witton Park. They took 3rd prize in the veteran category with Josefa Terim, Anna Blomfield and Jan Needham being the counters.
Rochdaleís best performing youngsters at Witton Park included Linda Evans (4th under 20 lady), Gina Thornton (5th under 17 lady), Scott Greenwood (6th under 20 male), Ben Johnson (8th under 15 male), Lucy Moore (11th under 13 girl), Jake Walker (15th under 11 boy), Pippa Ullah (16th Under 11 girl), Sophie Thirsk (23rd under 15 girl) and Lewis Thirsk (24th under 13 boy).
