Josefa Terim at last year's National XC Championship
THE GREATER MANCHESTER Cross Country Championships were staged at Woodbank Park, Stockport on Saturday 10th January. The multi terrain course was a tough one, including a very steep climb on each laps.
All of the Rochdale Harriers taking part gave a good account of themselves under extremely cold conditions.
In the under 15 Boys race, Jack Walsh was the lone Rochdale representative and he raced to 21st position in the time of 12 minutes 20 seconds. This is Jack’s first year in this age group and he competed against athletes almost two years older than himself. Jack has improved each season and his training and racing performances are a credit to himself and his coach.
The Harriers also had a lone competitor in the Senior Women’s race. Josefa Terim let no one pass her throughout the race and ran well to finish 18th in 37 minutes 33 seconds. She finished 2nd veteran runner and was awarded the silver medal in this category.
The Senior Men’s race had seven Rochdale competitors. All ran well over a demanding 4 laps and finished 7th team overall. The positions were: 36th Paul Leary 45mins 14 secs; 42nd Ian Stainthorpe 46.32; 47th Jon Lane 47.02; 50th Chris Leach 47.26; 68th Nic Walsh 52.04; 69th Ray Dalby 53.21; and 79th Matt Cox 55.33
The Harriers team will be in action again on Saturday at Boggart Hole Clough in the South East Lancs League and the following week will travel to St. Helens for the North of England Cross Country Championships.
