Broadoak Cross Country

South East Lancashire Cross Country League
11th November 2006

BLUSTERY CONDITIONS, large areas of mud underfoot and a relatively long course made last weekend’s South East Lancs Cross Country fixture a difficult one for all competitors.

Rochdale’s star lady runner Carly Needham was unable to compete and this gave rise to some concerns that Rochdale may suffer in the SELCC rankings.  As it turned out, Josefa Terim and Huma Rahman gave their all to finish in 5th and 6th place respectively.  Tracey Smith made third counter and together the ladies team achieved second place overall.

Rochdale’s Liam Smith was pushed back to third place this week by two runners from East Cheshire & Tameside AC.     Gina Thornton also had a tremendous run in the under 15’s race as part of her winter training ahead of next year’s track season.

The conditions worsened as the afternoon progressed, so much so that the team tent nearly joined in on the men’s race. Rochdale’s senior male team took seventh place overall and the counters in finishing order were  Kris Robinson,  Ian Roberts, Chris Leach, Matthew Proctor, Brian Moore and Nigel Shaw.

The next cross country fixture is at Hyndburn (Red Rose League).
