Hayes’ Horseshoe Hop
ALSO LAST weekend the Harriers competed in the Crowden Horseshoe Fell race near Glossop. The course stretched to 8 miles and included 1700 ft of ascent and a tricky descent that saw several bloody knees cross the finishing line.
Mark Widdup was Rochdale’s first home, completing the course in an impressive 85 minutes.
Mark Hayes’ highly experienced but heavily worn Walshes were on their last legs at the Belmont race the previous week. Sadly one of the shoes disintegrated three miles into the race at Crowden. Undeterred Hayes continued running for 5 miles over the moors with only one shoe and completed the race in an amazing 89 minutes.
