ROCHDALE HARRIERS received over 25 awards at this year’s South East Lancs Cross Country league presentations.  In a ceremony which took place at Horwich, awards were based on the best 3 of 4 cross country races in the league this season.

In the junior section, Liam Smith finished 2nd and Georgio Costa 5th in their age brackets.

The men’s over 50’s team finished in 2nd place, with Phil Roberts, Ray Dalby , Nigel Shaw and newcomer Mike Winstanley receiving medals for their team efforts.

The highest honours this year went to Rochdale’s lady athletes.  They were the overall first Senior ladies team in the league, with Carly Needham, Josefa Terim, Huma Rahman, Anna Blomfield, Jan Needham, Kirsten Johnson and Tracey Smith  all having contributed to the team’s success over the season.

Rochdale Ladies teams were also winners this season in the over 35 and over 40 age categories. Additional counters to these successes included Chris Deasey, Jill Hutchinson, Brenda Robinson and Kay Hill, all of whom received team medals.

Ladies coach Brenda Robinson commented:

Rochdale’s ladies showed excellent team spirit by turning out in force for each race and supporting each other.  Winning overall and across several veteran categories in the SELCC league is a tremendous achievement”.

Individual performances were also recognised at the presentation.   Josefa Terim took second place overall in the Senior Ladies category.   In the FV35 category, Huma Rahman won and Tracey Smith bagged 3rd place.  Anna Blomfield was third FV45 and Jan Needham second in the FV50 category.
