ROCHDALE’s DAVID PROCTOR put in outstanding indoor track performances this month while competing on behalf of his American University in the America East Championships.

David won both the mile and 800 meters races to earn the coveted title of America East Track Performer of the Year.  His time for the mile at 4 min 6.34 seconds was not his speediest but was still plenty fast enough to win on the day.

David’s brother, Matthew Proctor, himself an athlete at Rochdale, commented:

“David has been working hard at the 800m for a couple of years now, trying to finish in under 1 min 50.  He was so pleased to crack this and win the race in 1 min 49.58 sec”

The youngster’s 800m time also beats the Rochdale Harriers & A.C. club record which he himself set in 2004.

In the distance medley team event, Proctor and three team mates set a new America East record time of 9 min 54.59 sec, slicing 5 seconds off the previous record.

News of David’s recent track performances has spread quickly within the UK Athletics community and David has received the call up to represent Great Britain in the European Indoor Championships hosted by Birmingham on the 2-4th March 2007.

David will not be competing however, due to the distance from the University in the USA where he is currently studying.  Instead he will compete in the National Collegiate Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Only the top few athletes from all over American Universities taking part, and with David ranked 2nd, there are high hopes of him bringing back a medal.
