Rochdale Harriers Bowlee Them Over

AS THE SONG goes, two out of three aint bad. But this week Rochdale Harriers did even better, with no less than seven of the eight runners winning in their age categories at the Graham Richards Memorial Run 5k. 

The 5K trail race was organised by Middleton Harriers and the course looped round Bowlee fields, near Heywood.    Rochdale’s Wajib Ali held on to his title, winning this year in 15 min 52 sec, some 16 seconds faster than his 2006 time.  Paul Rockliffe of Trafford AC finished second in 16 min 37 sec and Rochdale’s Matt Proctor took third place overall and won the male junior title in 16 min 56 sec. 

Text Box:   Mother and daughter Pauline and Emma Cooper (pictured) won the female veteran 45 and female junior titles, clocking 28.16 and 29.54 respectively.   Other ladies taking part were Sheila Duggal and Brenda Robinson, winners of the female veteran 40 and 60 categories. 

Over to the men, and a leaner and faster Dave Schofield won the male veteran 60 category, while John Purdy improved on his 2006 time by 21 seconds to finish in 20.40.  

The results for Rochdale Harriers in finishing order were as follows: 

Wajib Ali, 15.52 (winner); Matt Proctor, 16.56 (3rd overall and 1st MJ); John Purdy, 20.40; David Schofield,  20.50 (1st MV60); Sheila Duggal, 23.15 (1st FV40); Brenda Robinson,  26.31 (1st FV60); Pauline Cooper, 28.16 (1st FV45); Emma Cooper, 29.54 (1st FJ).
