Seniors
Spen a Chilly Time EVERY YEAR the Spen 20 mile race in
Yorkshire attracts many marathon runners and, it seems, throws awful
weather at every one of them. Last year we reported that the air
temperature at this race were –2C and the wind chill was –10C,
resulting local athlete Huma Rahman finishing the race with frozen
eyebrows. This year the temperatures were not
quite so low, but the would be London Marathoners were challenged by
extremely strong winds and numerous hail showers.
Rochdale Harriers entered three
athletes, one in each of the male veteran 45 and female veteran 35 and
45 categories. By
coincidence each of the three finished third in their category. Ian
Stainthorpe completed the painful course in a terrific 2 hr 14 min 36
sec to take 12th place overall and third MV45. Huma Rahman was next, the wind slowing her slightly from last
year, passing the line in 2.38.53.
Only three minutes behind was Anna Blomfield who battled the
hail and still clocked an impressive 2hr 41 min 41 sec.

Juniors Brave The Elements
THE OPENING outdoor track meet took place for the Rochdale Harriers & A.C. Juniors last weekend in Blackpool. Despite awful weather conditions, there was a strong showing from many of the Juniors, and one, more experienced member of the Harriers squad. The excellent results posted by our junior athletes are shown below. To perform so well so early bodes well for the rest of the outdoor season. Congratulations to all who competed. **************************************************************************
